CraneMemorial

The CraneMemorial is an art installation that deals with the topic of freedom and war within the concept of the legend of a thousand cranes. This art installation provides a space to reflect and to educate on the topic.

Welcome to "CraneMemorial",

a unique art exhibition that combines the Japanese legend of the Thousand Cranes with the theme of nuclear war.

The light installation, consisting of soaring cranes, symbolizes hope and peace while also reminding us of the horrors of nuclear weapons. Each crane carries the burden of the past and calls for taking responsibility for a more peaceful future. The lighting and projections create an atmospheric production that encourages visitors to reflect on peace and nuclear disarmament.

“CraneMemorial” is more than an art exhibition; it is an invitation for inspiration and collective commitment to create a world of peace.

Come in and be moved by the power of art and the legend of the Thousand Cranes.

The lightened up Glass Origami symbolize the fragility of hope and peace. Each Origami Crane carries the burden of the past and calls for taking responsibility for a peaceful future.

The dark room symbolizes the dark aspects of human history and the reality of nuclear wars. It also represents ignorance and blindness to the threats posed by nuclear conflict and asks visitors to acknowledge, reflect and take responsibility.

The mirror path represents self-reflection and the idea of individual responsibility. By walking along the mirror path, visitors are confronted with their own reflections, which can help create awareness of each individual's personal role and influence.

Materials

The Origami is made out of Glass emphasizing its fragility, clarity and purity. The light coming from above can get through the glass lighting up the whole origami. The frame holding up the Origami is coloured black so that it can disappear within the already dark room.
